The Teachable alternative
you own.

Teachable rents you a school, priced by how many products you sell and how many people help you run it. If you've hit its plan limits, its fees or its branding, here's what it really costs, and how easy it is to move to a platform you own.

// The pitch vs. what you get

Easy to start, priced as you grow.

Teachable is a good place to begin. The catches arrive once the school works. Here's each selling point next to what Atlas does instead.

Teachable's pitchWhat it means for youWith Atlas
Start for $39 a month
Starter takes a 7.5% fee on every sale, on top of card processing. Dropping that fee means Builder at $89 a month or more.
No platform cut. Stripe's standard rate, on your own account.
Your school
Teachable branding stays unless you're on Growth, at $189 a month, and your course runs in Teachable's player and app.
Only ever your brand, from the sales page to the last lesson.
Everything in one place
Inside caps: 5, 10 or 50 published products, and one admin seat until Growth.
No platform caps. Add courses, members and team without changing plans.
Student apps
Your students learn inside Teachable's app, under Teachable's name.
Your own platform, on your domain, with push notifications under your name.
Cancel any time
You can. The school, its logins and its checkout close with the subscription.
Stop working with us and everything keeps running. It's yours.

Teachable figures from teachable.com/pricing as listed on 5 October 2026; plans and prices change. *0% applies when selling through teachable:pay or the Monthly Payment Gateway; processing fees still apply, and international cards and PayPal cost more. On an owned platform, hosting, video hosting and email are billed to you directly.

// When you leave

What comes with you, and what doesn't.

Your material can leave Teachable. The school you built around it runs on Teachable, and it stops when the subscription does.

Comes with you

  • Your student list, exported as a spreadsheet
  • The video and files you keep copies of
  • Your lesson text and email copy, if you copy it out first

Stops with the subscription

  • The school and its sales pages as they run today
  • The course player, student logins and their progress
  • Checkout, coupons and upsells
  • Built-in emails and the affiliate program

None of this is unusual. Every hosted platform works this way, because the platform is the product you pay for. The question is whether the school you're building for the next ten years should live inside it.

// Where it binds

The ceiling you can't raise.

01

The fee or the upgrade

On Starter, Teachable keeps 7.5% of every sale. A $500 course pays $37.50 to Teachable before card processing. Removing the fee means a plan more than twice the price.

02

One admin seat

Starter and Builder allow a single admin. Bringing in an assistant, a co-teacher or a support person means Growth, at $189 a month.

03

The features are the features

Cohorts that move together, live-call reminders and replays, a reflections journal, an AI guide trained on your teaching. If it isn't in Teachable, you bolt on another tool or go without.

04

Your best work stays invisible

Lessons sit behind a login, out of reach of search and AI. On your own site, the ideas you teach can become public pages with your name on them.

// Moving off Teachable

Moving is our job.

Your part is one call and one review. We do the rest, and your students never lose access.

01

One call

Show us your school and what's in the way. That's most of your part done.

02

We take inventory

Every course, student and file, checked, so nothing is left behind.

03

We build

Courses, membership and site rebuilt as one system in your brand, on your domain, with checkout through your own Stripe.

04

We switch it on

Students get their new logins first, your domain moves over, and Teachable is cancelled once you're happy.

Your partOne call. One review. One yes. We do everything else.

// Case study · Rise Above the Herd

Off rented platforms, onto its own.

Rise Above the Herd had lived on Kajabi and on Xperiencify. Atlas rebuilt it as a platform it owns, running a live cohort academy and a self-guided edition from one codebase. Its first cohort completed 501 lessons and wrote 328 reflections.

// Questions

Teachable, answered.

How much does Teachable cost in 2026?

As listed on teachable.com/pricing on 5 October 2026: Starter is $39 a month ($29 a month billed yearly), Builder is $89 ($69 yearly) and Growth is $189 ($139 yearly). A Custom plan is priced through Teachable's sales team.

Does Teachable charge transaction fees?

On Starter, yes: 7.5% of every sale. Builder, Growth and Custom have 0% transaction fees when you sell through teachable:pay or the Monthly Payment Gateway. Card processing still applies on every plan, at 2.9% + 30¢ for US cards.

Can I remove Teachable branding?

Only on the Growth plan ($189 a month, or $139 billed yearly) and on Custom. Starter and Builder schools carry Teachable branding.

What's the best Teachable alternative?

It depends on what you want to change. If you want another subscription with different trade-offs, Kajabi, Thinkific, Podia and Skool are the usual names. If you want to stop renting, the alternative is a course platform built for you on your own domain and owned outright. That's what Atlas builds.

Do I lose my students if I leave Teachable?

Not if the move is planned. Students get access on the new platform first, and Teachable is cancelled only after everything is across.
